Proven Strategies for Expanding How You Deliver Static Information.
Have you been in the middle of a lecture where you could feel the energy leaving the room? Where people get lost in the sea of details and begin to tune out? With the increasing demands on instructors to compress more and more content into less time, it is natural for teachers and trainers to rely too heavily on lecturing to students.
Substantial research exists that show the impact that interactive lecture techniques can have on information transfer and retention. This session will explore the research on lectures, discuss the pros and cons of lecture and examine lecture in light of the emerging research on how the brain learns.
You'll discover proven techniques for creating more dynamic and interactive lectures, explore alternative lecture strategies that help create stronger connections to content and learn how to combine concrete experiences with abstract concepts to connect learning to the lives of learners.
This webinar will explore:
- The pros and cons of lecture as a teaching strategy
- The brain research on teaching by telling
- Proven methods for creating more dynamic and interactive lectures that increase learner engagement.
The 4MAT Webinar Series is a series of 90 minute training sessions that explores the underlying elements of high quality teaching and learning. 4MAT 4 Algebra
(to be announced)
In this 90-minute session, you will experience 4MAT 4 Algebra, a highly dynamic and engaging way of teaching Algebra I Based on the way that student's learn best.
One of the key challenges in algebra is the long list of topics that are covered and the types of activities that teachers are using to help students master these concepts. It is sometimes difficult for teachers to hone in on the essential ideas that are most prone to motivate and engage students in learning math.
This webinar presents 10 key concepts that can help teachers navigate the standards and create more meaningful instructional units for students. Our course is about getting students out of their seats and engaged in meaningful tasks that help them understand the underlying meaning of what they are learning. There are many more ways to learn than just reading and worksheets.
These activities are particularly effective for students that do not learn well through traditional instruction.
At the conclusion of the webinar, each participant will obtain a copy of the conceptual structure of the course along with the underlying topics that are housed under these key concepts. Participants will also receive one major 4MAT unit, which can be used as the initial unit when introducing students to Algebra.
